The curriculum for the older age group (ages 11-15) has expanded to include critical topics for Muslim teens living in our current Canadian context. These topics will include but not be limited to:

• The importance of building a Muslim identity
• Gender issues
• LGBT from an Islamic perspective
• Addressing doubts in Islam
• An Islamic guide to mental health
• Being a proud Muslim/Hijabi in the public sphere
• Dealing with friends of other religions

Currently the majority of registrants are boys. As much as we may all want our sons to become the future leaders of this community and have the prestige and privilege of being able lead us in taraweeh prayers, it is equally important for us to want our daughters to be from among those that have memorized the Qur’an.

Many of the questions that arise in our children regarding Islam come from our daughters who too often find our masaajid to be unwelcoming places. Let’s take some initiative to change this! ?
